Downstairs neighbors complaining about toddler noise

Late to the party here. have a 2 year old and just moved into an apartment almost 2 weeks ago, neighbor downstairs came up and asked us very respectfully to try to keep it down, told him okay and all that jazz. Father in law was over and making a huge deal that our 2 year old is going to get us kicked out due to noise. ridiculous. Our neighbors upstairs have like 3 kids and they're up at all times running around. We hear it but it doesn't bother us at all. I don't really get it. I grew up in apartments and have always understood that living in Apts comes with noise. Kids will be kids and shouldn't have to walk on eggshells. Our downstairs neighbor was very nice about it but I hope it doesn't become a problem in the future.

Good luck! Hopefully you don’t hear from your neighbor again! Funnily enough, our downstairs neighbors had a baby and after that we didn’t hear any complaints from them again. I thought it would be the opposite and they’d get frustrated if we were too loud during naps or whatever, but maybe once you have kids you’re just immune to constant noise haha.

Let management know about their complaints of normal noise during a normal afternoon and let them know what you have done to mitigate already (rugs, discipline, etc). Bring up the fact that these people are banging on the ceiling and otherwise harassing you. Nothing might come of it but if you have an okay relationship with the apartment managers already this will preemptively thwart a noise complaint the downstairs people may make against you.

Thank you for the advice. I am worried they’re going to complain to management and turn this into a whole big situation. We’ve lived here over 3 years with no problems or noise complaints against us so getting ahead of it is probably a good idea.
