Why do people say that this symbol wasn't explained?
I've seen the white walker spiral design used as an example as a "forgotten plot point" when it really isn't.
The white walkers clearly have intelligence and a culture that the human characters don't understand. Since this symbol was used to create the Night King the white walkers definitely view this as their religious symbol. It's what created them and recreating it out of corpses and whatever else they have is just part of their culture.
