Pearl R2 Air mounts

Anyone upgraded a Pearl kit to R2 with L arm mounts? Thinking about doing a refurb on a very nice maple MIJ 80’s kit. I’ve always struggled a bit for the tom positioning I prefer with the 7/8” tube arms. I guess the sound is much like the older suspension system?
