What makes Absolute Batman so popular? A question from someone that hasn't read a comic in 20 years.

I semi-frequent this group because I was a 90's comic fanboy but haven't really picked up comics in years. I see a lot of buzz about Absolute Batman. is it something an old timer might enjoy that hasn't read comics in years? What's the appeal of this one?
