thought i had POTS, now i’m not sure
when i got my diagnosis, i was diagnosed with dysautonomia, which to my understanding is not a diagnosis itself, but rather an umbrella term for a bunch of different conditions. i brought this up to the doctor and asked her which one it was specifically, she said that they don’t like to differentiate because they’re “all the same” i disagree but whatever. anyways this was in 2022 and after that appointment i just kinda…self diagnosed with POTS because i thought that was the one that fit my symptoms the best. and since then i’ve said i’ve had POTS to other doctors and what not. however tonight out of pure curiosity i decided to do the poor man’s tilt table test on myself (they didn’t do a tilt table test at the appointment) and it turns out my heart rate didn’t go up at all. although it definitely feels like it did. my heart will feel like it’s pounding when i stand up suddenly so i always assumed that was my heart rate spiking but i guess not. when i was doing the standing portion i felt lightheaded and dizzy as usual and i had to lean against my dresser for support, but like i said my heart rate didn’t move. i know that the diagnostic criteria for POTS is that your heart rate needs to increase at least 30 bpm within 10 minutes of standing but like i said that didn’t happen for me. i just don’t know what to think of it now. any ideas on what this could be? also i’m not anemic. i’ve had my iron tested several times and it’s come back normal each time.
