[BotW][TotK] Is it really THAT wrong to prefer TotK over BotW?
A lot of people prefer BotW, because of the whole exploration aspect being "for the first time". It's evident that this feeling is kinda gone in TotK, because Nintendo reused the same map. Why did they get slammed for it, while Sega reused Kamurocho and now Hawaii for their 10+ Yakuza games? That's another debate...
I understand that the first-time exploration feeling is not as big in TotK, even with the Depths, the caves and the Sky. However, familiarity can be a good thing, which brings me to my point.
I... cursed... a LOT... while playing BotW. I hated falling off cliffs, getting sniped by Guardians, being swarmed by Bokoblins without good weapons and being overwhelmed by that annoying Thunderblight Ganon. I even died a few times in the Great Plateau, because I was learning the basics. The Shrines ranged from cool puzzles to "please just go in that exact direction, because the physics aren't accurate" to "can that little Guardian break already?". I plowed through the game nonetheless, cleared all Guardian Beasts and defeated Ganon.
When I started TotK, I... knew what to expect. There's a Shrine located in a snowy area in the Sky, but I knew about cooking peppers for a cold-resistant meal. I was aware that rain can make climbing almost impossible. There aren't as many Gloom Hands as there were Guardians. The building mechanics simply clicked with me, because I quickly understood how to make effective vehicles. The Shrines are more physic-based, but also more "science-based", with stuff like momentum, conductivity, temperature and whatnot. There are now Shrines that better teach you the combat mechanics and even others that strip your equipment and force you to use whatever you have IN the Shrines, mostly specific Zonai devices. I ended up accumulating a LOT of materials for custom [more durable] weapons, which are more plentyful this time around. I hoarded so many arrows and eyes that I even went full hit-and-run instead of melee.
In short, I had way more fun in TotK, because I was familiar with 90% of what the games threw at me. Sure, the exploration aspect was lessened, although the Depths and the Sky brought something new, but now that I "fell down and stood back up" in BotW, I prepared myself in a better way.
So yeah, I enjoyed TotK over BotW, is it that wrong?
