Gritty Clutch Feeling (Explained)
Last night, I downshifted from 5th to 4th, and then to 3rd, gave it some gas, and everything seemed fine. After a little more driving on my commute, the clutch started having this slightly gritty feeling to it once pressed about 50% of the way all the way to 100%.
Here’s what I’ve tested/noticed:
- Car starts fine in 2nd gear, there’s no clutch slippage
- No weird noises associated/ no issues with getting into gear
- No difference in driving or the way the transmission works
- The feeling only happens when I’m ABOVE idle RPMs, so 1500,2000,3000…etc..
- I feel it while shifting at higher rpm’s, and it doesn’t happen at all at idle or when the car is off.
- It seems there are a couple other forums on this that have consistent answers.
Best way to describe the feeling is that if you imagine pressing the clutch pedal down, it’s a smooth curve. Now imagine having slight bumps in that curve, very minuscule, and you have the feeling. I can’t tell if it has always been there or if now it’s just a little more prominent.
I’m pro tuned through a local trusted Subaru shop, my car makes 315whp/352tq, higher than stock, but nothing crazy. I don’t do launches often at all, just the casual spirited driving. Maybe 5 launches ever.
Has anyone else had anything similar to this? Any input helps.
