Querying agents with almost finished (but very timely) manuscript

I’ve been writing my first draft for years while working as a journalist and have picked up the pace recently and am nearly done. Obviously there’s redrafting to do but I am feeling anxious to pitch because the topic of my novel is very timely at the moment.

Has anyone tried querying agents with an almost finished manuscript because their topic was relevant now?
