Crestfallen

I just beat Gothic 1 this morning. After infusing the legendary blade of Uriziel with the overwhelming power of the water mage’s ore stockpile, I confronted the corrupt Cor Kalom in the bowels of the sleeper’s lair. With bravery and might I felled the mad Baal and banished the sleeper, thus freeing the prisoners within the barrier and saving the world from an arch demon. HUZZAH!

Alas, Xardas nurses me back to health with the arcane elixir of his magical teat. Finally, I can venture out into the island free of my rotund prison. Except now I’m picking radishes for a pair of pants. WHICH IS COOL. I love rpgs that start you off as a little pleb nobody and force you to develop your strength. In fact I just finished playing one of those.

My gripe, friends, is that I feel unappreciated. I encountered a former compatriot of mine at the docks in Khorinis and he greeted me by exclaiming “hey! What’s up.” As if it wasn’t I who heralded his very flight from that damned valley.

As the story unravels, can I expect my past triumphs to gain glory alongside those I accomplish in the second game, or are my deeds in the colony known only to Zaddy Xardas??
