Sending restaurant wines back. Experiences?

I’m interested in folks experiences with refusing an ordered bottle for being off, spoiled, corked, etc. How did it go. What was the response?

I’ll share my experience. I was in my early 30s having dinner at a nice restaurant ($$-$$$) with friends. We were all learning about wine and were in the midst of the Tuscan revolution after the 1997 vintage. I was there for the wine list which had great selections at all price points. Saw that they had a super-Tuscan (remember them) wine from the 80s and I’m a sucker for bottle age. Wish I could remember the wine. Ordered it with anticipation and a little reservation. They poured it. Brown tinge. Tasted it and it was gone. It was obviously gone. It wasn’t that I didn’t like it, ordered the wrong thing etc. Price was around $100+ For us, this was pricy at the time.

Waiter looked like he didn’t know what to do. He called over the manger who sputtered and expressed disbelief. They sent it to the back of the house for an opinion. It was really uncomfortable for my party but I have never been more confident in my life (and I hate making a fuss in public situations). After several attempts to convince me that the wine was fine, they acquiesced. Of course, then you’re under pressure to redeem yourself and spend a little more which I did. A lesser me might have tried to drink that turned wine, but I knew - that is not how Sangiovese (and a little cab, maybe merlot) tastes. Would do it again but luckily haven’t had to.

For those with high-end experiences and where more aged bottles are sold, do they handle this eventuality better?
