Lesbian fiction novel, set somewhere in the middle east or India (I think), talks about one of the women changing their gender
I remember reading a summary of a fiction book years ago and the idea stuck with me, but I never actually read the book. It was about a lesbian couple somewhere in the middle east (I believe - or somewhere close, maybe India or something?) where same-sex love is forbidden. However, in the setting's culture, it's acceptable to change genders, so the story revolved around them grappling with the idea how one of them could potentially go through a gender change to make their love socially acceptable, and then they could be together without worrying about the repercussions.
Years later now that I'm queer and trans, I'd love to actually read the book and see if it's any good or just a weird take, lol
