bridal party: hair & makeup. who foots the bill?

basically title says it all!

i am in NY (long island) and wanted some thoughts. does the bride cover the bridesmaids? it’s about $300 a person here total for both hair and makeup. thinking of giving my girls the option to do their own or use the MUA/stylist if they want.

wanted some insight if it’s part of the brides responsibilities or bridesmaid. one wedding i was in i paid for myself (i was 13 for my cousin and brought my money my parents gave me) and the most recent wedding i was in, april 24’, the bride (another cousin of mine) covered me. she said she felt obligated since everyone had to travel up to her since she was the only one living in upstate NY (they moved away).

i was thinking to skip all the little BM gifts and cover at least one of the services of their choosing (hair or makeup) and if they wanted to do the other, the $150 is at their expense/choice. is that reasonable or fair?

edit: BM would most certainly have the option to do their own hair/makeup!! not obligated to get the service but rather offer it if they would like it

idea here is: bm proposal box has a “voucher for hair or makeup” for them to use and if they are comfortable doing the other of their choosing themselves they absolutely can, but if they wanted to get the other service also done, that expense is on them
