Millennial gamers, do you see yourself continuing to play video games when you are old?
By old I mean retirement old, like when you’re in your 60s, 70s, 80s, or beyond.
We are the generation that grew up with video games and internet, and gaming has been a part of our lives for decades now. For many it’s even a core entertainment/hobby or a means of social (if you also have a lot of gaming friends) as well.
As someone who is probably on the younger side of the spectrum, I’m also heading towards my 30s, and I realized that I still play video games as a main way of leisure like when I was younger, and so do many of my friends. There’re less gaming nights, ofc, but we still play games together from time to time - Even some of my friends are married with kids. Less gaming is usually caused by busier schedules instead of interest shifts.
What I wonder is if all of these will change as we grow older. If not, will our gaming habit reduce the generation gap between us and younger generations? The generation gap is definitely huge between me and my grandparents generations as we almost share no common interest except maybe chess which I’m also not very enthusiastic about. But nowadays I still see young kids growing up playing video games just like we do.
Maybe it will be the types of game that define generations gaps in the future? E.g. I definitely see kids playing mobile games much more than we do, but tbh it’s not like we won’t understand it like Silent/Boomers won’t understand video games.
What will be the new means of leisure that we won’t enjoy or understand when we were really old?
