The Dhaliwal Brothers
Was just reading news stories about the decade+ ongoing gang wars of the lower mainland.
One group of brothers comes up often. The Dhaliwal brothers.
Harpreet Dhaliwal was shot & killed outside of Cardero's in 2019. Before police arrived his younger brother Meninder Dhaliwal chased the shooter down the block and stabbed him in the eye.
Meninder was later shot & killed while getting into his BMW out front of a Whistler hotel in 2022.
In Sept 2024, Barinder Dhaliwal was shot while leaving his parents home Langley. His injuries were not life threatening, but his alleged shooter died of gunshots at the scene.
One thing that has me scratching my head is the immediate retaliation of these events hasn't had any legal repercussions.
Meninder wasn't charged for stabbing his brothers shooter in the eye and Barinder wasn't charged with anything even though his alleged shooter was found shot to death at the scene.
I thought Canada's judicial system wasn't like the USA's "stand you're ground" and that all crimes are to be litigated.
You are only allowed to use "reasonable force" to stop a crime, and that reasonable force will be decided on by the court system to determine if it was justified (case by case).
I guess there is a fairly good argument that both instances were "self defence". Although I don't know if I would consider chasing someone down the street and stabbing them in the eye self defence.
And Barinder is a career criminal who is banned from owing firearms but obviously he was armed, probably with an illegal handgun when he was shot in Sept 2024.
It just seems strange that these gangsters seem to get a pass on extremely serious crimes, when it would be beneficial for the community to charge them and try to get them off the street for as long as possible.
