GRT CUTS REVERSED!!!!!!!!!!
BIG NEWS FROM REGIONAL COUNCIL TODAY!!!!
As some of you may know, regional council was looking to make some cuts to the GRT in the 2025 budget, including reducing the frequency of Route 30 Ring Road and removing garbage cans from bus stops. These changes would have affected us as students as well as members of our community who rely on public transportation to get around.
In opposition to these cuts, the UWaterloo NDP Club (that's us!) quickly launched an activism campaign, which included organizing delegates, creating a petition, and getting people to fill out the GRT feedback survey.
Today was final budget day, and we are thrilled to announce that OUR CAMPAIGN WAS HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL, AND THE CUTS HAVE BEEN REVERSED!!!!!!!
Cancellation of Route 35 Greenbrook? **ððð ððððð**
Reduced frequency on Route 9 Lakeshore? **ððð ððððð*\*
Reduced frequency on Route 30 Ring Road? **ððð ððððð*\*
Reduced frequency on Route 55 Grand Bridge? **ððð ððððð*\*
Removing 50% of trips on Route 26 Trillium? **ððð ððððð*\*
Removing garbage cans at bus stops? **ððð ððððð*\*
And with that, THE UWATERLOO NDP CLUB HAS OFFICIALLY COMPLETED THE LOCAL ACTIVISM THREE-PEAT!!!! ION CUTS, NIGHT BUS, AND GRT SERVICE REDUCTIONS!!!!
HUGE thank you to everyone who signed the petition, did the GRT input survey, and came out delegate!!! We couldn't have done it without you.
