ServerPartDeals - Manufacturer Recertified vs Seller Refurbished
Just sharing some experience after having received both types of drives from SPD. Was searching for experience from people, and didn't see much about the 2 different types of used drives they offer so sharing my own experience. All drives are Western Digital DC HC550 18TB's.
Manufacturer Recertified - 2-year warranty. I've purchased 9 of these so far. Every single one of them had a manufacturing date within ~6 months of my purchase (example - my purchase in January 2024 provided drives stamped June 2023). Each one had only a few hundred power-on hours.
Seller Refurbished - 90-day warranty. Just purchased 3 of these for the first time. All 3 were stamped June 2021. Power-on hours showed over 28000 for each (over 3 years). Whoa.
Pre-clear is wrapping up for the new Seller Refurbished drives, no issues so far.
Personally, after seeing the age of the refurbs, I'm not sure I got a good deal here. I paid $209 for these 3 vs the $260 SPD wanted for Manufacturer Recertified and had I known they would have power-on hours this high, I probably would have paid the difference for the recertified drives again. If anyone else has experience with both, curious if the above lines up with what you received, or if your seller refurbs were a bit younger.
