Why do drivers accept rides, then complain about distance?

Maybe 5 or 6 times I've needed to go to a destination 50-60 minutes away. I tip *after*.

But it seems like the driver ALWAYS feels the need to bring up:
"Oh, i didnt know we were going that far".
"Ugh, this is 50 minutes away".
"i wasn't planning on going that far today..."

I *always* offer to cancel the ride, and request a new driver, but they always decline and take me anyways.

Is this some kind of trick to bait tips? Anytime I've had them make that comment, i'd leave them 1 star or just not tip at all. It seems rude and unprofessional to accept a job, then complain to my face about it.

Thoughts? Is there a glitch where the app does not tell the driver where the destination is?
