My Introduction to Twenty Øne Pilots: Clancy
So I got into this band less than a month ago when I saw Clancy at a record store in Chicago (I was out of town for Christmas). I thought "why not?" I already respected the band for hits like Ride and Tear in My Heart, but had never dived their discography. I thought it'd be fun to try so I took it back with me.
I couldn't listen to it yet without my record player so I skimmed through the songs. Overcompensate sounded interesting, Backslide didn't really meet my taste, and Palidan Strait sounded like a MOVIE. That's when I found out about the lore of TØP. Four hours later and I was caught up on the story of Clancy and the Banditos.
First thing I did when I got home was listen to Clancy and I was obsessed- I was going through a slump at the time where music just wasn't hitting how it used to- Clancy saved me from this slump. Now, less than a month later, and I have every lyric memorized from this album. I can only say the same for two other albums, Room on Fire by The Strokes and In Utero by Nirvana. Clancy has also easily entered my top ten albums ever.
Twenty Øne Pilots isn't necessarily my usual style of music but I think the way they write and their amazing vocal work draws me in. I really am glad to add them to my list of favorite and I'm excited to hear Trench next.
Now I'm going to rank the album (or at least try, it'll be really hard) I essentially love every song on this album, literally
