Novice Question

Just started investing yesterday so might be a dumb question, but I deposited £10 into the S&P 500 yesterday. Today, it has gone up to over £20, but selling the shares only shows a value of £9.99.

Can someone explain to me why this is/how this works? Just looking to learn, thanks!
