@matthewandpaul claiming that paul’s book was banned

has anyone else been seeing this drama. paul has a degenerative eye disease and will eventually be totally blind. right now he basically has vision that is fuzzy and like through a pinhole. he has written two children’s books. they look really cute and i had ordered his first one for a child in my family. he is a self published author. in this post he is listening to an email from a bookstore that is returning 100 books. it says the person who ordered the books did not know their policies and should not have ordered them. there are a few things going on with this.

first, the book is not banned. we don’t know why the books were returned, but there is a big difference between returning books and banning them. a hundred books is a HUGE order for an independent book store, it’s actually unheard of because that is more than an independent store could handle. it is common practice for stores to return books that didn’t sell, but this was the entire order sadly. he says that he was supposed to do a book signing at that same store and they canceled as well.

second, he never said the name of the bookstore, but in the email is from someone named tanya. now anyone remotely related to books with that name on tiktok is getting hate and paul and his partner are not even asking his fans to stop. they have gotten lots of support throughout his writing of both of his books and it’s been nice for them. however, the fact that people have brought attention to the hate they are receiving and they don’t address it is disappointing.

of course their timing of this happening during pride month has some curious. of course tiktok did it’s thing and dozens of people reached out after hearing the email and they sold out of the books the next day. they have had a lot of success with tiktok and his books. their content is cute at first but then you realize that ninety percent of it is matthew pranking his legally blind husband. a couple of months ago, paul was on the news because he says his seeing eye dog was denied entry into a restaurant and people were supportive as they should have been.

i think i lost respect for them because they started partnering with starbucks a month or so ago, and because of that i was hesitant to bring attention to this because i didn’t want to be a hater. but now, knowing that others have told them about the hate people are getting and they haven’t said a word. i want everybody to get their bag because life is expensive, but not at the expense of others.
