Finally got the Suicide Run event!

This story was fascinating and probably the biggest event punisher has had. The mob designs a trap inside of a building which Punisher infiltrates and rigs to explode. He kills all the mobsters but ends up detonation the building while still inside and is presumed dead. A bunch of other characters attempt to fill the void as Punisher (Lynn Michaels, Hitman, Desmond Kline, Outlaw, etc). But is the true Punisher still out there? Meanwhile, the VIGIL Anti-Vigilante Task Force is on the scene attempting to capture the Punishers by any means necessary.

Parts of this event were adapted in Punisher S2, namely the concepts of all the prison stuff and Amy Bendix character.

Its rumored that VIGIL Anti-Vigilante Task Force will also appear in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again show as well.

This story also features 616 Punisher at one of his most extreme moments: detonating a skyscraper full of the countries most notorious mobsters. It's also an insane feat, hes the only survivor of the complete demolition of the building, his suit saves him underneath tons of debris and rubble which is wild.

I do wish the story had wrapped up the themes of the copycats a bit better and the reaction of the public. This story establishes that if Punisher were to even die that multiple contenders would vie for the mantle, both good and bad. It also establishes that while Punisher may inspire some morons, they die quickly as they dont have any training or experience like he does.

This was said to be pitched as the final Punisher story back in the day, although clearly the decision was made to continue.

The event is:

  • Punisher (1987) #85-88
  • Punisher: War Journal (1987) #61-64
  • Punisher War Zone (1992) #23-25
  • Clocks Ticking
  • Punishers Conditioning Techniques
  • The Condemned
  • Tunnel Vision
