Why is McDonald's revenue lower now than it was in 2013?

The fast food industry at least in my estimation seems both a cash machine and a growth sector, with expanding populations across much of the globe and the corresponding demand in developing regions for budget food options. So why hasn't this lifted McDonald's sales figures, and is it a bad sign for the company going forward?
