Can someone help me understand?

I'm fully expecting to get downvoted to oblivion for this but I've noticed a pattern I don't understand. Maybe it's it's me misunderstanding something, or perhaps I'm doing something wrong. The short of it is that I've noticed a bit of negativity towards large ship owners, particularly Polaris owners.

My post history is pretty clear, I recently bought a Polaris. I love this ship, its a lot of fun. I use it solo, I use it with small groups here and there, but its mostly for me and my best friend to enjoy. I've soloed a Carrack for years and can honestly say the Polaris is a comfortable fit for my playstyle. No complaints on this end. I'm excited for engineering gameplay to make the experience more challenging and to make the ship feel more alive.

But I have noticed a few people on reddit and spectrum saying the same things here and there. Mostly that I made a mistake because I cant find enough people to crew it (my crew will only be 2-5 if i have one but usually just 2). They will say that it was a waste of money. That I will melt it once I realize I've made a mistake and so on.

Let me be clear, It's not an easy ship to solo or run with a 2-3 man group in combat. But I use it the same way I used my old Carrack. As a base of operations. It sits on the ground or in orbit. It doesn't see battle very often at all. If I'm being totally honest I got it for the cargo space, hangar and the look of it. When you use a large ship like I do its really no different than an M2, just with missiles instead of guns. Again, It works for me, and my little crew.

Where I'm not tracking is that I own the ship and enjoy it. Yet the vibe I get sometimes is that this isn't the expectation or the norm. I wanna understand that more. I have had more than a few people tell me it takes X people to run the ship. I own it. I know exactly how many people it takes to run the ship in the game as it is today. Besides, this is a multiplayer game. My biggest problem is to find a consistent large group to play with outside of my ship, not crewing the ship itself.

I will say that the VAST majority of people are cool. Most players on average are indifferent, as one would expect. I'm sure everyone has seen the Polaris and other larger ships around ports. They're everywhere. Its not a big deal. There are even the small handfuls of people who do fly-bys still. But over the past few sessions I have noticed that one or two guys in chat saying what I mentioned above about the Idris, or Polaris, or even the mole. I just so happen to notice it more about the Polaris personally but the same points for the same few ships. And it always seems unprompted, or out of nowhere.

A conversation is always welcome in an open chat, but I would go so far as to say that some of the people I'm talking about seem bothered by the presence of larger ships in game. I feel like that's a bold assessment, but if that's the case for anyone I would like to know why that is. One player in particular said something about performance issues. I don't know if that was just a local thing, but maybe that's a good starting point.

I'm not trying to cause an argument. I was just reading a chat and thought "Why does this person not like big ship owners?" and realized that I'm assuming his issue stops at the ship. One guy said something like " Oh they're just jealous!", but I don't wanna dismiss a pattern as something simple like that. Sure, one or two people I get but its starting to become a patter, and I wanna assume there are tangible reasons. Like I said, I know its going to get downvoted if for no other reason this is kind of a silly topic, but I make this post in good faith. If there is a consistent problem with performance maybe there is something I can do to help people have a more consistent and enjoyable experience.
