Why would I buy a more expensive helmet?

So I got a gift card for Christmas, its 200 bucks. Before anything else I want a helmet. BUT i would also like to get a new pair of googles... So I am just curious I suppose, at what point am I over paying for a helmet?

There is a helmet as cheap as 60 bucks (Smith Holt) as expensive as the Gyro Orbit (honestly looks cool af) and everything in between.

Will it really protect my head better if i pay more??

What are the other reasons a more expensive helmet is better?

What really is the most important thing to look for?
