How is heliskiing or climb-skiing fun?

Will admit that I don't have a crazy amount of skiing experience and have never done anything more than taking the ski lifts at resorts and skiing down. But I know that some skiiers pay large fees to take helicopters up mountains uncharted mountains to ski down. And other skiers even climb up mountains with skis strapped to their backs just to ski down.

My question is, how is this even fun? It seems like an obscene amount of work for maybe a few minutes of actually skiing down. Is it really that much better than just going to a commercial resort?
