Please keep canceling your membership. Here's why

The way Jagex behaves feels like being in a toxic relationship.

  • Broken Promises: Jagex tells us they've learned their lesson every time something goes wrong. They say things like, "We won't do this again," or "We care about the game's core values." But then, they do something just as bad, like adding a new feature that upsets players or pushing more ways to make money off us.
  • Blaming Others: When they mess up, they rarely take full responsibility. Instead, they say things like, "We got caught up in research," or "We didn't explain it well." They make it sound like we misunderstood instead of admitting they did something that hurt the community.
  • Quick Fixes to Win Us Back: Jagex often makes small gestures to calm us down after players get angry. They might remove an unpopular feature (like fixing the Hero Pass) or promise to be more open about their actions. These little acts make us feel appreciated for a moment, but they don't solve the bigger problem.
  • Ignoring Player Boundaries: We have been clear about what we want: no pay-to-win, respect for the game's integrity, and no sneaky ways to make money. But Jagex keeps testing these boundaries, knowing it will upset us and they do it anyway.
  • Mixed Messages: Jagex says, "This survey was just for ideas," or "We're committed to your values." However, their actions constantly push the limits of monetization, which tells a different story. This leaves us confused and wondering if Jagex is even listening.

So, when do we realize this relationship isn't healthy? Words don't mean much without action. Jagex keeps showing that making money matters more to them than keeping us happy. It's time to hold them accountable. Not just by complaining online but by showing them that trust, once lost, can't be won back with empty promises. It may be time to walk away from a game that no longer treats us with respect.
