November 4 - what about museums and shops?

As I was booking tickets for different museums I noticed there is no way to book anything on November 4. I checked that on this day Italians celebrate National Unity and Armed Forces Day. Forgive me my ignorance, but does mean everything is closed or what? Are shops and restaurants open that day? Do I need to shop beforehand, so I don't starve?
