Seattle to Houston Route Planning

Next week I will be driving from Seattle to Houston with my family. What is the best route to take this time of year considering we will be towing a trailer behind our truck. Google and Apple Maps suggest the routes pictured, but would going down through California and across I-10 be more ideal?
