wondering science behind friend with peculiarly strong tolerance to all substances

As the title states, I have a good friend who is a rare substance user. ie. first time acid and mdma last year. I’ll lists off some strange cases that I had never seen before this person and I’m curious if anyone else has come across anything like this before. I also will preface with it’s not a quality issue.

It had been a few times of oh I don’t feel it, can I have more with like coke/shrooms/ket that I was like hmm that’s strange but I brushed it off. ie. doing ketamine amounts that would easily k hole me and all my friends.

Then we went to an odesza show and they decided to roll for first time, sure we all take .15 and 4 of us are having blast. This person is dead sober. I feel bad. At first I’m thinking okay they wimped out and didn’t eat it. But I firmly believe they took it as they just seemed pretty sad it wasn’t working. I decided to make executive decision after waiting another 20 min to see if maybe it’d kick. Here’s another .15. I watch them eat it this time. About 30-45 min later rolling like us. This somewhat confirmed it in my mind about the tolerance but I still had the err of doubt like could be a fluke. But .3 of stellar mdma first time should be way too much.

Next strange situation is, we decide to do acid I take half tab and because of the prior knowledge I decide okay you take 2/3 of a tab. I’m feeling wavy it’s been awhile not really working on them. So we add another like 1/3-1/2. Start to slightly feel but they want more. Okay here’s another 1/2. Now it’s working. A week later they want to do it again. I’m like okay sure, I know psychs have tolerance build so I decide to take just below a full. And I give them 1.5. I’m having a wonderful time. It’s not working on them. They eat another. And another and another. 4.5 tabs gone. Not really feeling anything. My mind is kinda just blown at that point.

It’s also with alcohol, Ritalin, adderall. My guesses are like a weird genetic thing with metabolizing things? This person has an identical twin who also has very similar experiences. Another directly related person to them rolled fine off the .15.

Edit it’s also with benzos. First time they took 1 10mg Valium said didn’t feel anything. Meanwhile in my head I’m thinking “for sureee dIazepmamm not workgngg” 🤣. But it actually was not working lol. Finally got the stuck feeling off 2.5.
