Just finished Light Bringer and I have thought
To start off, I have been a long time fan of the original Red Rising trilogy. If you look back at my post history you'll see I made a post on this sub when I was like a third of the way through IG. I was very disappointed at that point and everyone encouraged me to keep reading.
I'm here to say, I'm very glad I did. IG was hard for me. I really didn't like Darrow in that book and was struggling. The next two books were phenomenal though. 2 of the best in the series I'd say. I thought the story was excellent and I loved where Brown went with all of the characters. I want to talk about those character arcs and maybe ask some questions.
Darrow: Darrow is back where he should be as one of my favorite characters. He has really grown since IG and I love reading his perspectives. I'm super excited to see him wreak havoc in RG.
Sevro: when reading IG I sort of thought Sevro might be the devil on Darrow's shoulder. I was very happy to see that wasnt the case and he has actually grown more than Darrow since the original Trilogy. I loved seeing him continue as a slightly more mature version of himself.
Atlas: great villain. He was pretty terrifying at times. I loved watching him best our heroes and then finally be beaten by Cassius in the end (I'll get to that scene)
Lysander: Fuck Lysander. I have to say, I didn't hate him as much as most people after DA. I didn't like him and was mad at him for killing Alexander but I sort of understood that he was on the other side of the war. It wasn't honorable and was very shitty but, I at least understood it from his perspective. LB changed that. I hate him now.
Cassius: What a beautiful end to his story. To me, Cassius really felt like the hero of LB. I'm going to tell myself that he could have killed Lysander in that last moment but couldn't bring himself to kill the boy he basically raised.
Lyria: I've really been enjoying her story. I don't have a ton more to say about her. I will say that I thought the parasite storyline was sort of bizarre. It felt like at the end of DA it was going to be a big deal and the. It just wasn't really.
Volga: it was a little bit not believable to me that she would follow Fa but her turning on him was great and taking but the leadership was really cool.
Speaking of Fa: Fa vs Darrow fight was one of the coolest fights I've ever read. It probably only compares to a few others I've read. I loved seeing Darrow's new fighting form and am excited to see how that goes in the last book.
Speaking of Red God. When does it come out? I can't find any info on that.
I'd love to talk more about this book so please ask me my opinions or bring up things I missed.
