Anyone else notice a massive shift in attitude in the last day or so?
Edit: My bad for trying to have any kind of conversation on Reddit, I should have remembered that usually doesn't go well. I even said I'm not taking any of these things as the opinion of all Chinese people but that at least my content on there got extremely weird within the last day or so. I encourage everyone to go see for you themselves, maybe you won't see any of the same things I have. I purposefully didn't interact with a lot of American content so I might have just ended up in a very strange algorithm.
Regardless, I think I've seen what I needed to see so back to my secret CIA job I guess
Sorry this is going to be a long one.
Obviously I knew the initial wave of acceptance wouldn't last but wow I'm surprised at how quickly things seem to have really gotten hostile. I know that some awful Americans were being awful Americans but that was to be expected unfortunately. At first I saw a wave of posts mocking Americans talking about their struggles, many people saying that we're lying, some suggesting we're actor's trying to scam them which is interesting because I didn't see anyone asking for money and others saying Americans where trying to play the victim so that Chinese people would let down their guard. From there it suddenly seemed like everyone started talking about American accounts being fake spies who were trying to get Chinese secrets and photos or that we where sent to make Chinese citizens fail a national security test. Ok, a bit understandable given what I know about the Chinese government and I understand the paranoia.
Then I came across many posts that were just incredibly angry about the Americans who were asking about immigration, and again understandable I think a lot of the Americans asking that are being incredibly naive and just saying things because even basic research shows it's mostly impossible to do anyways. They were saying that any accounts promoting immigration had to be reported and that people should be taking screenshots and reporting any foreigners who were asking about immigration so that they could potentially be tracked if they come to visit China to make sure they don't try to stay illegally. A lot of talk about white Americans only having a colonizer mindset of coming to a nice place and taking everything for themselves without working for it and to look at all the harm they have done, which again okay pretty fair considering history.
I really didn't expect how racist those comments would be, especially against black people...after all of the talk about how race doesn't matter that happened in the beginning. I saw so many comments about how foreigners especially black ones are just going to come and get the women pregnant to try to stay and that everyone should look at what happened to France as an example of how quickly a country can be infiltrated by others especially black people.
So yeah I'm not really sure what to make of all that, obviously at the end of the day it's a Chinese app and we were just guests but the very rapid shift to just complete nastiness was a bit surprising. I know that is not the opinion of everyone, there are still people having pleasant exchanges, but it has me wondering and little worried about some of the black Americans still creating content on there, if they were to mention anything about immigration would that be used as propaganda against all black foreigners? Could they be in some sort of danger if they do go visit in the future?
I took a lot of screenshots if anyone really wants to see what I'm talking about if you haven't seen it yourself, but those are mostly just to discuss with my friends and I wasn't planning on sharing them publicly.
