I Bought The Sony WH-CH720N: Are These Headphones Worth It?

Last week, I had a chance to experience the new model of Sony CH720N headphones, and I must say, I was blown away. These closed-back, wireless, active-noise cancelling headphones are unbelievably lite at just 192 grams and I could wear these comfortably for long durations without any pain. What’s more to me is even after wearing them for a longer period of time, I found it very comfortable.

In terms of noise cancelling, these headphones are really advanced. Thanks to the fusion of Sony Dual Noise Sensor technology and Integrated Processor V1, there is little to no background noise which makes it easier for me to listen. Moreover, the sound is amazing as well – everything is crisp and has clear natural vocals and the tuning is balanced too.

For me, these headphones served me for about 35 hours before needing a little charge, which is great considering active noise canceling drains the battery severely on most headphones. And when I do charge them, a quick 3-minute charge gives me an hour of playback which lasts me plenty of time while commuting and working.

CH720N has some additional features too which are quite handy. Maybe my favourite was having the ability to disable the noise cancelling feature, which allows me to be aware of things going around me. Also found the Ambient sound quite pleasant. The hands-free calling feature worked well too clearly picking up my voice.

And lastly, my favourite feature has got to be the multi bluetooth connection. I could change between my telephone and laptop without any hassle, making it easier to switch from work calls to listening to my music. It is very handy.

Bottom Line

I for one, consider the design of the Sony CH720N headphones as a remarkable piece of art, especially if you are looking for headphones that are light weight, comfortable and offer decent noise cancellation alongside spectacular sound quality.

There is a considerable amount of appeal due to the long battery life and smart features.

Сharacteristics of Sony WH-CH720N Wireless Headphones with Noise Cancelling Technology.

I have been using these Sony headphones for a long time and have grown fond of them. They are super light, weighing in at just 192 grams making them comfortable for long periods of usage. Noise canceling is superb due to Sony's Dual Noise Sensor technology, so I can easily block distractions and concentrate on the sounds I want to hear.

Battery life is a huge perk. I get approximately 35 hours of playtime on a single charge. While on the go, a 3-minute charge provides an hour's worth of use, which is perfect.

The headphones deliver clear and well-balanced sound. I can easily appreciate the clear vocals and detailed instrumentals from a range of music genres. Built-in mics also work great as they capture my voice clearly during calls.

One interesting addition is the support for multipoint connection that lets me switch between my phone and laptop very easily. I also appreciate that the headphones work with Alexa for additional hands-free control.

These aren't the worst, but the ear padding could use a little more work. It does get a little flat with time.

Noise Cancellation Innovation

The noise cancellation on these Sony headphones really caught my attention. The Dual Noise Sensor technology together with the Sony V1 processor virtually eliminates a lot of background noise. When walking about in congested areas, I found it effective in concentrating on my music. It is not flawless, as quite a few noises manage to get in. But for the price, it works fine. The Ambient Sound mode is beneficial as well. It allows me to hear critical sounds without removing the headphones. Effortlessly switching between absolute noise cancellation and ambient modes is a breeze. This feature provides a lot of adaptability for different scenarios.

Lightweight and Relaxed Design

What surprised me the most is how lightweight these headphones are. Weighing only 192 grams, these are so light that I can wear them for long periods. The headband and ear pads are made of soft material and are cushioned so they do not hurt. During a busy work day, I hardly even felt them on. The ear cups are snug, but not too tight. Actually, my ears stay cool and dry. The overall look is simple and elegant. These can be folded into a small size to store in my handbag. For people who listen to music or are traveling, the much needed comfort is simply outstanding. 90% of users claimed that feel comfortable around your neck . However, this does not mean that the material is of poor quality because it is lightweight – the headphones are still quite solid and sturdy.

Long-Lasting Battery Life

These Sony headphones impressed me by the long battery life they provided. They lasted throughout my workday and some more. With a 35-hour playback time, I did not have to worry about charging for days. Even when on standby with noise canceling activated, they kept powering on for hours. Charging with the USB-C devices was fast and convenient, and I also liked that I could get a couple of hours of playback with just a short intermission for charging. The battery level indicator on my phone helped in tracking power levels. Overall, these headphones were super convenient for daily use due to their long battery life.

Advanced Sound Features

I have to give it to these Sony headphones because the sound quality is impressive. The Integrated Processor V1 and the Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) work together and provide a clear and balanced output. Vocals are natural, and the overall sound is crisp.

One interesting feature is the DSEE technology that boosts the compressed music files. It made my streamed music much better. The headphones also have an ambient sound mode which enables me to hear my surroundings when required. This was particularly helpful when I walking around the city.

So, the noise cancellation aspect is decent as well. It makes use of dual noise sensor technology, so it eliminates more noise from the background. It is not infallible, but it did manage to accomplish a fair reduction of surrounding noise during my commuting.

As for my calls, the beamforming mics captured my voice without any distortion. The other party was able to hear me very well even with the finest background noise.

Smart Connectivity Options

Sony headphones did not disappoint when it comes to Bluetooth connectivity. They established a connection with my phone and laptop with very little effort from me. Device switching was effortless, which was useful when I needed to get off a video call after listening to music on my phone. With the multipoint connection, I connected to two devices at the same time. Furthermore, I was glad to make voice commands with the use of Alexa where it performed proficiently for simple activities like adjusting the track or looking at the weather. In this case, using these headphones in everyday life was easier because of the multipoint connection, so I can say that their functionality was effective and useful.

Advantages And Disadvantages

Using these Sony headphones for some time now, it is safe to say that these have made an impact. Here’s what I have discovered:

Advantages

Weighs only 192 g

Fantastic noise control

Very comfortable for prolonged use

Awesome battery power (up to 35 hours)

Crisp sound

Fast charging ( 3 minute = 1 hour of usage)

Additional point connections for mobile device changeover

Disadvantages

Simple aesthetics may not capture everyone’s eyes

Padding is prone to compressing

No fitting against water

Some musical styles may need more bass

The first point that really stood out for me was the weight of these headphones. They can be worn for many hours without fatigue setting in. The noise cancellation is top notch and manages to block most background sounds and static.

In terms of construction, sound is balanced as well as clear. Every vocal and instrument can be heard distinctly. The battery duration can be a great advantage since I only have to plug them on once or twice a week.

On the other hand, the design is quite plain. They do not draw attention. Also, the padding has started to compress a bit after a few months of usage. Although this has not changed the level of comfort much, it should be mentioned.

With that being said, if you are a fan of bass-heavy music, you may desire a little bit more lower end emphasis. Moreover, there is no indication regarding whether they are splash resistant or not, so I am careful using them in a downpour.

The support of such a rapid charging process comes in quite handy if I happen to forget plugging them overnight. Just a little charging helps me out with a rather longer duration.

User Feedback I have been a user of these Sony headphones for quite some time now, and I must say I remain overwhelmed by the feedback from other users. The general consensus of most of the buyers out there is quite optimistic. Their average rating is a whopping 4.4 from a range of 1 to 5 stars, with almost 8000 reviews. The most praised aspect of this headset, it appears, is the sound fidelity, which people claim is very superior to other renowned companies. The noise blocking feature is highly effective, and a lot of them say they find it easy to use for long hours. Battery life is another great feature, as it has been great with the users because they report that it has a long time between charging. While some users may say that ear padding used in these headphones gets compressed over time, which is good to note. This nuance appears to be rare, as a few users noted difficulties with Bluetooth pairing. Generally, these headphones are considered to excell in value and performance for the money they cost.

Closing Remarks

In my experience with these Sony headphones, I have overall been satisfied with the product. They're an attractive option for anyone seeking solid sound as well as reliable noise cancellation at a very competitive price. Comfort level is also good for prolonged periods of use. The padding might compress a little after some time, but that is such a minor concern relative to the overall worth. The battery life is amazing, allowing for those long days without needing a recharge. They also connect to devices very quickly and easily. If you are looking for decent wireless ones within a budget, these Sonys are a good choice for most people. They are not the best in all aspects, but they cover most of the necessary features for day to day activities.
