Punk saved my life.
My childhood was filled with abuse, I had no self worth and was afraid of social situations. Ska had become popular and I loved the unity factor and the thoughtfulness behind the lyrics. I soon started listening to punk, and then skacore and all the subgenres.
I joined a punk forum and then started making my own clothes, I gave myself a mohawk and died my hair. I found local shows and started going to them and making friends.
It gave me the power to stand up for myself and believe in things with a conviction.
That was a few decades ago, as I'm now a hermit spinster cat lady - but with out punk I don't think I'd be where I'm at today. Choosing to live my life as I saw I wanted, and not giving into the pressures of societies standards of what a woman "should" be.
Thank you Punk, for being bad ass and giving me the strength to be myself.
