Hey everyone, I got scammed at a reputed HP petrol pump on Pune University Road yesterday (Google Maps Link).
Anecdote: While riding my Activa, I sensed something odd with its acceleration. I thought that air the back tyre (tubeless) is less and was looking for a petrol pump for filling it up. Suspecting low air in the back tire (tubeless), I looked for a petrol pump to fill it up. This tire is relatively new, only 6 months old, and I had filled it up around 2 weeks back. I noticed an HP petrol pump opposite Rahul Cinema on University Road and decided to get it checked there. Inside the premises of the pump was a shop/cabin branded with the HP logo, which looked legitimate. I asked the guy if there was an issue with the back tire, and he confirmed that the air pressure was low. Now, I'm well versed with the Pune 101 manual of scams around the city and have avoided the same multiple times in the past (thanks to this subreddit), I kept my guard up but still fell for it.
I kept a keen eye on him and he looked for puncture by squirting water through a bottle, and showed me a puncture (bubbles coming up). I enquired the price of repair, which he mentioned Rs. 80. I asked him that it is too much, he pointed to a board and said company's official price is Rs. 100. I reluctantly agreed. After the first one, he kept on looking for another one. Suddenly he poked the thing in the tyre and pulled out a small metal needle out and showed it to me, and went on to fix that. Then he showed some other puncture and fixed that as well. He showed 3 other punctures as well and told me about some liquid that blocks all these. At that moment, I suspected something fishy and decided not to go ahead and take it to the authorised dealer instead. He insisted on fixing these or else I won't be able to go further than 10 mins. I denied and eventually paid Rs. 240 to this scamster for a lesson about these petrol pumps. My last tyre was ruined by these roadside assholes and I had to replace the tyre. This time I was naive to believe that HP store won't run these kinds of scam, but I couldn't be any more wrong.
Need Help:
I went to the HP website to file a complaint against this retail pump outlet but couldn't find the name. Can anyone suggest how to find the name and raise an official complaint?
Continued: By the time I reached the dealer yesterday evening, his store was closed and I showed the tyre to a garage adjacent to the store. He fixed two punctures and while he was fixing it up I noticed the tyre was misaligned with the body. On further inspection, I found that the angle on the bottom has broken from one side and the other end can break anytime, making it unsafe to ride until fixed. I took it to a mechanic I trust today morning and gave him for repair. He'll take a look at the tyres. I'll consult the tyre dealer again once the angle is fixed.
