What did exactly happened with Unwritten Law?

What the title says. They looked like the next big thing, and I mean, the black album and Elva feel like multiplatinum records in retrospect. Also, I don't know how can they be pop-punk, their sound is sort of adjacent of it but like a straight up rock band. Nothing too plastic nor manufactured.

Anyone near the scene from back then, please bring up your theories, some of your perspectives and thoughts on the matter.
