Both rats and squirrels in attic at the same time?

Is it possible? I have an ongoing on/off rat problem in the attic. Recently I have visually confirmed squirrels getting into there as well. Not 100% sure the rats are still there. Is it possible for both of them to live in the attic at the same time?

What do I even do in such a case? I would set snap traps for the rats but I dont want the squirrels touching them since the traps arent powerful enough to kill them
