1500-5000 for sealing up metal roof against rats?
Heard some rat noises 2 months ago, saw and caught a rat in the attic. Since then, all quiet on our motion control cams. We put in a standing seam metal roof early this year, and I called two pest control companies to come by to help to inspect and close up entryways.
First guy: said immediately it was the roof and made it sound like metal roofs are a big problem and allow entry at the vent areas and where two angles of the roof meet. However he couldn't really say where the rat entered and said he couldn't guarantee keeping them out. Our attic is very short and hard to work because of the short height and the blow in insulation. He said he'd work in the attic using some deterrent made from chili extract. Estimate: almost 5000
Second guy: also said metal roof could be entry for the rats, but wasn't as convinced as the first guy. Also, we have no trees near our roof as we removed them when we first moved, but we do have electric wires coming from poles in the street. He couldn't believe the first guys estimate and shook his head. He seemed very quick, to the point, and said that he could work on the outside roof and $1500 was his minimum.
My main questions are: do standing seam roofs really make it easy for rats to enter? Are these estimates legit? I got the feeling neither guy was very sure where entry points are, but the second guy was not trying to upsell. Also, because we've not had a rat problem in the past 10 years, I'm wondering if it's needed and whether I'm fine just keeping my traps in the attic.
