Question for J Mascis owners

Just picked up one of these and I really like it. However the fretboard seems exceptionally dry. I did a quick rub with lemon oil cleaner and it didn’t seem make much difference.

So my question to anyone who has one of these, did you have the same experience?

I do need to oil it properly with the strings taken off however, so maybe it just needs a few goes.
