Which job to take?
I have a dilemma. I am going back to a staff job after traveling because it is what’s best for my family. I have two offers. One is in my old CVICU at a big teaching hospital (LVADs, impella, IABP, ecmo, transplant…). I’m hoping to become their night shift charge when I go back, however the position isn’t posted. I worked there for five years and loved the people, but the job itself was tough. It’s a rotating door of staff, I would have patients in charge all the time, just exhausting. But I loved the chaos.
The other job I got offered is for the permanent night shift charge in the CVICU at the hospital across the street. They are a unit that’s half the size and do everything but VADs and ECMO. I would only work Monday-Wednesday nights, no weekends, and rarely have patients in charge. A lot of resource and teaching, which I love. The salary is better and they pay for parking. Their staff is happy and they love my experience. This is literally everything I want in a job.
I know it’s a no brainer that I should choose the second hospital, but I’m just afraid I will miss all the chaos and business of my old unit. Even though it was frustrating and stressful 99% of the time, I’m afraid I’ll regret if I don’t go back. But honestly, it will probably be much different than when I left.
Please give me advice so I don’t screw up 😂
