Tried my first guided run yesterday (8km) and...
I've been running for 20 years and focus on 5km mostly, 10km sometimes. This summer I ran 12km in frustration (sometimes I take my anger out on the road, running is therapy!), and after that I felt so empowered I've been toying with going to half marathon or marathon territory. That said, I decided to try a guided run yesterday to help this training.
Holy smokes I couldn't even make it to 2km before having to turn it off. The nonsense talking every 1 minute was wild, I couldn't even heard one full song without 30-40 seconds of rambling.
"You know what's great about 8km? It's not 5k, it's not 10k! It's 8k! If you don't want to run 10, but want more than 5, then it's 8! Why not 7.5? 8 sounds better! 8k is this many miles! This is an easy run! Did I tell you run easy, 'cause this is a cool, easy run! I want you to run chill and cool, easy! This is 8k, not 5k!"
Maybe it bothered me because I'm very good at getting into the "zone" and just running with pure uninhibited focus on my body, and nothing in my mind. I was hoping for something like "okay, now for this km, I want to run at this speed" and a quick explanation of why, but that wasn't the case. When I was learning to run 20 years ago, I'd run 1:1 with my coach, and while teaching, she didn't even talk this much, and I loved the feedback.
Anyway, are there any with much, MUCH less talking, or are they all like this?
