Does Aaron Rodgers to the Vikings actually make sense?
Could the meme actually come to fruition? If Kevin O'Connell goes to the tape and sees Aaron Rodgers still has something left in the tank I could see them pulling the trigger if the price is right. Although my opinion is heavily biased because I do want the memes, it might make sense(?).
Assuming they don't view McCarthy as ready yet and Rodgers comes in on the cheap, I don't see a downside. You can have a true competition and if McCarthy wins great. If Rodgers wins JJ gets a year behind a probable hall of famer and you roll with him do or die 2026. Unless of course Rodgers is viewed as some kind of toxic personality then probably best to steer clear. On top of that you'd have to tell him you're bringing him in as the starter so there's that.
Though from Rodgers' perspective, assuming he still wants to play, I don't see a better landing spot. He'd be in a dome for 11 games, gets the best weapons he's ever had and gets one last shot to stick it to the Packers and the rest of the NFC North.
He's not going to want to go to a team going through a full rebuild. So for him that rules out Titans, Browns, Giants, Raiders and of course, the Jets. So I guess that leaves potentially the Seahawks, Steelers, Colts, Saints, and that's only if the team would be willing which I bet at least a couple of them aren't.
But the Vikings are in a unique spot where they could be looking at Sam Darnold the same way the Rams looked at Jared Goff. Yeah, Darnold can get you to where you got this year but that might be his ceiling. I'd imagine Kevin O'Connell also takes a lot of the credit for how successful Darnold was this season as it seems whoever the QB is they at minimum look competent.
So Rodgers could be appealing at the right price. If he's just grateful to get another chance you might be able to get him sub $20 million. You stock the hell up on other talent with the cap savings at QB, give Rodgers one final Hurah and hope for the best.
I didn't watch the Jets too much last year outside Redzone, but I don't remember it appearing like Rodgers' arm talent had dropped off or anything like that. It just looked like the team as a whole was dysfunctional, including QB. But if he's still got the arm I believe O'Connell would be confident in being able to squeeze something out of him with the potential being greater than what he squeezed out of Darnold.
All this goes without saying the power Rodgers seemed to possess in New York is out the window. They tried it your way and look where that got ya. There's no need for changes on the Vikings anyway so I doubt a humbled Rodgers is going to cause issues in that regard.
In concludion, Rodgers to Minnesota is a pipe dream I desperately want to happen for the memes. But it makes like a little bit of sense. What the F am I doing day drinking on a Wednesday for, God damn. My bad guys.
