New last name for baby?

Hello!

My husband and I kept our original last names when we got married. Now we are expecting our first baby, and we are wondering what to do about the last name.

We thought:

  1. All boys just take his last name, all girls just take mine, very simple.
  2. Hyphenated last name can work, this seems to be the default option.

But now that baby is almost here, we thought of another option we like better:

  1. Take the letters of our last names and make a new last name, thoughts? Ideas? Our last names are made up of:

A E E L L N N O S T

Thanks for reading and for any suggestions!

First off, thank you so much for your comments and suggestions! Quite a few things we didn’t think of!

Second off, we (parents) would not be changing our last name! Unique to our family, we have another child (split family) who has a different unique last name.

So all three of us have a unique last name that we love! If we (parents) were going to change our last name to match our baby’s last name, this may alienate our other child, which we would never want to do! We’ve been a family of three with different last names for a long time, and it’s never been a problem (not even with international travel).
