Elon Musk attempted to bring up false claims about a water shortage he spread on Twitter but was quickly corrected by a firefighter, leading him to end his livestream.
The video shows Musk questioning a firefighter about the availability of water during the Palisades fire and comparing it to the situation in Malibu. Musk seemed to believe that water shortages had hampered the firefighting efforts.
In response, the firefighter explained that there was plenty of water in reservoirs, but the intensity of the fire overwhelmed the system. He described how they had to bring in large water trucks, known as water tenders, to supply additional water. These trucks carried around 2,500 to 3,000 gallons each and were used as mobile hydrants to help firefighters keep up with the massive demand for water.
The firefighter emphasized that the Department of Water and Power did an excellent job supporting the efforts by bringing in these resources. He clarified that the issue wasn’t a lack of water but rather that the firefighting efforts required more water than the system could deliver at one time.
Despite the firefighter’s detailed explanation, Musk pressed on, asking for more clarification. He wanted to know if there was ever a true water shortage during the Palisades fire. The firefighter patiently explained that while there wasn’t a shortage in the traditional sense, the system simply couldn’t handle the extreme flow of water needed to fight such large fires.
