Can we please stop adapting every movie ever made into a stage musical?

Hot take... ALL the movie versions are better than their musical counterparts. All of them. Why? Because of the creative originality behind them. The trend of adapting all of these movies into stage musicals lacks any sense of originality. Putting the actors in the same costumes as the ones on screen and having them essentially recreate the performances from the movie while adding generic musical theatre pop tunes does not strike me as artistically worthwhile. I realize that's the "business" part of show business, but I still don't like it. I am sure the pioneers of Broadway theatre would be rolling in their graves if they knew that more than half of the shows on Broadway right now are adaptations. I will concede, some adaptations are better than others, but the principle and scale of this trend just makes my soul bleed.

Worst culprits: Mrs. Doubtfire, Pretty Woman, Rocky (like... who is this for?), Back to the Future, Big, and any of the mid 2000s vampire ones.

(I should mention I don't think it is the fault of any of the performers. More often than not they are the only redeeming part of the show. I was so so impressed by the Broadway cast of Legally Blond)
