Lying on medical

Had a successful contract signing and was told by company that they’re excited to onboard me with my prior experience (this is for an entry level role).

Just got kicked back for admitting I’ve had surgeries in my medical that won’t effect my job role. Do people just generally lie if they’ve had a surgery/something that might bar them from working in mining? Starting to think that’s my only option given how minor the reason I was knocked back is.
