Has anyone experienced a thunderstorm where all the lightning took place before the precipitation began?
Hello all.
So as the title suggests, I was wondering if anyone has experienced an overhead thunderstorm where all the lightning took place before the rain began?
This happened here in Ireland way back in August 2004, around 23rd.
It was about 6 pm and a thunderstorm developed overhead. I was in my grandmothers house at the time. There were a few loud claps of thunder. My grandmother says there was no visible lightning, which I suspect that nearly all the lightning was intracloud.
After about 10 minutes, a few drops of rain started to fall from the cloud, with a few more claps of thunder. As soon as the rain intensified however, all thunder/lightning activity stopped immediately, with about 20 minutes of very heavy rainfall before the thunderstorm sort of fell apart.
It was the strangest thunderstorm I had ever experienced.
