I'm afraid to ask this question in the BJJ subreddit, so I'll try here: In all truthfulness, how effective is BJJ on the street?

I fully acknowledge the art's effectiveness in UFC, MMA world etc... but I honestly fail to see the appeal in street combat. The ground is the last place you want to find yourself in a street fight.

Fighting on an asphalt full of rocks, glass, without a matt and under threat of being kicked in the head or stabbed while fighting multiple opponents renders many BJJ technics worthless.

Focus should be on technics that prevent you from falling to the ground, rather than initiating ground game in a street fight.

I have also failed to find a meaningful amount of videos on Youtube that showcase pure BJJ in a street fight. When I did, those were mostly 1 vs 1 where the guy being taken down was untrained.

90% of videos are BJJ in a gym, on a matt with controlled environment.

I'd Like to hear different opinions on the matter. Thanks in advance.
