Trip Report - 3 weeks in Asia (Titanium)

Got back from a trip in Asia and wanted to post thoughts about the properties I stayed at.

Prologue: Downtown LA Proper Hotel, Design Hotels (Dec 8th-9th)

  • Flew out of LA so stayed here for a night.
  • Price: $200 (booked through FHR at $400).
  • Upgraded to larger king room. Asked if I could get one of the crazy suites with a pool in it (this building used to be a YMCA) but unfortunately not. Worth trying at least! Bathroom was really nice.
  • Great restaurants in this property, and rooftop has great views.
  • Expensive parking, but that's LA for you

Westin Singapore (Dec 11-17th)

  • Cost: 214k points
  • Really liked this property. Located right in the heart of the business district of Singapore, the location is great for walking to different things and is right on top of 2 subway lines. During the week, it's SUPER busy in the area, and on the weekend it's completely dead.
  • Upgraded from base king room to a premier corner room. Really large room with amazing views of the city. Beautiful bathroom - bathtub and shower have floor to ceiling views, really cool to do a rainfall shower overlooking the city. Bed was very comfortable.
  • Pool was lovely and also had great views. A bit small so chairs are limited.
  • Lounge is on the smaller side but still nice. Good breakfast. Apparently you can also do breakfast at the restaurant but I wasn't offered it.
  • Overall very impressed.
  • Sidenote, there seems to be a W being built right next to this property. It's called W Residences.

JW Marriott Hong Kong (Dec 17th-22nd)

  • Price: $264/night
  • Originally was going to stay at the Renaissance, but the price dropped here.
  • Upgraded from base room to partial harbor view. Room is fine if slightly dated, but still quite nice. View was good if not slightly blocked. Shower was kind of small and had some weird angles but not a detractor.
  • Both lounge and restaurant (for breakfast) were exceptional.
  • Location is A++++. Attached to a big mall (Pacific place) and the Admiralty MTR station, which has 4 lines going to it. Unbelievably easy to get anywhere on the island.
  • Pool is kinda secluded but still a nice vibe.
  • Overall very nice. Would have loved to stay at the St. Regis but was too expensive.

Le Meridien Saigon (Dec 22-27th)

  • Price: $185/night
  • Great location, right along the Saigon river. Metro stop just outside of the hotel (opened the day I arrived). Metro doesn't really go anywhere useful but is fun to take. Can walk to anywhere in D1 easily. People say the park across the river can be loud but nothing really happened there when I was there.
  • Upgraded to River view room. Amazing views. Room itself was very nice, but had that kind of glass box of a bathroom inside the room. I was alone so I didn't mind. There is a curtain you can lower.
  • Lounge was nice. Restaurant for breakfast was amazing. Would definitely choose it.
  • Pool was a bit small and weirdly laid out but still nice, with great views.
  • Overall great choice. Wanted to try out the new JW but decided against it. Landmark 81 was also on the radar but is out of the way.

St. Regis Saigon (Dec 27th-Jan 1st)

  • Price: 236k points
  • Upgraded to City view room. Good views north and some west to the sports club (which is the view people prefer). Room itself was very nice.
  • Location was really good, especially for the events I was going to. Right on top of Ratchadamri BTS station and directly attached. Walkable to Siam Paragon/CentralWorld/Erawan/Silom.
  • Pool and gym were exquisite.
  • Breakfast at Viu restaurant was amazing. Tons of selection and a lot of very cool items.
  • Debated staying at the Renaissance which would have been 80k less points. Not sure if I made the right choice but I had a lovely time.

The Athenee, Luxury Collection (Jan 1-2nd)

  • Price: $191
  • Needed to do an extra night somewhere and this seemed like the best choice.
  • No room upgrade unfortunately. Base room was nice though.
  • Pool area was lovely.
  • Left too early to have breakfast unfortunately. Lounge was very nice for afternoon tea.
  • Was only here for ~12 hours but really enjoyed the vibe of this hotel. Would love to stay here again when I come back to Bangkok. Great location too.

Thoughts:

  • A bit annoyed I didn't get a single suite upgrade this entire trip. Granted, it was December.
  • Late checkout and free breakfast was always given when needed which was great, no fuss.
  • The cleaning frequency was awesome. Cleaning every day and turndown service every evening.
  • Staff at every hotel were always extremely attentive and polite.
