[DISC] New manga reader: not sure if I should continue reading Sakamoto Days or skip it. Action scenes on paper don't seem to appeal to me.
Hi,
I got into manga last summer starting with Spy Family. I was never into reading in my entire life but in the past few years I have been curious about reading manga.
When I finally decided to pick up a manga, I wanted one that I had not seen the anime yet and would probably not watch it anytime soon. I had seen so many people talk highly about the Spy Family anime, so I decided to pick it as my first manga.
And I absolutely love it. Love the humour, the family dynamics, and the light action of it.
After reading 3 volumes, I wanted to try something else. Again, I wanted a manga that I had not seen the anime. I found Sakamoto Days on the store, did a quick search on it and found many people saying it's great and it's action sequences are one of the best illustrated on paper.
So I ordered volume 1 of Sakamoto Days in September and I still haven't finished it.
I can see it is a great manga and I did enjoy reading what I have read so far, but it doesn't make me wanna grab it and read more. Compared to Spy Family, it has way more action and I'm not sure I'm enjoying it on paper.
I felt like some things were hard to understand what was going on or what happened. I would have to look back to analyse what happened and try to figure out what was happening. And I'm not sure if this is normal for manga readers.
For reference, I cannot imagine myself enjoying My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, One Punch Man on paper because the action is so beautiful on the anime.
But for example, Dr. Stone is one of my favourite anime and I can imagine that would be a perfect manga to read. It is smart, quirky, and very funny. I love it and I'm sure I would love it on paper.
Another example, Kaguya Sama Love is War anime. I watched a few episodes and definitely enjoyed the mind games / psychological "battles", clever dialogue, and the humour. I feel like something like this and Spy Family are ideal for me to read on paper.
But my question is, did anyone feel here feel the same about the heavy action on paper when you got into manga?
Should I keep reading Sakamoto Days because I might be feeling this way due to simply not being used to action on paper and eventually it will get better as I get used to it? I ordered volume 2 and 3 last week but now I'm wondering if I should cancel.
Sorry for the wall of text. Looking forward in reading what you guys have to say!
