From Windows to Mac questions + Is 16gb enough?

Hi folks,

I'm considering switching to a MacBook as a lifetime Windows desktop user. Reason for switch is that I run a growth marketing agency and now I occasionally have to travel for work and use a laptop, so I want a dependable battery, but I also like optimizing and simplifying stuff, so since my desktop is old enough anyway, I thought about replacing my whole setup for work/home with a single laptop.

I currently have 16gb on my desktop and literally Chrome is eating at least 14GB on a good day, and yes I know about the memory swapping, but wanted to hear about real world experiences.

Also, not sure if I should go 14" or 16"

Use cases:

  • a lot of tabs and heavy google office user - docs, spreadsheets, etc
  • ads manager, canva, photoshop, illustrator and figma on occasion
  • usually have like 50 - 100 tabs open for multiple projects in separate chrome windows and virtual desktops (not sure if that exists on mac)
  • want to start light video editing - capcut and finalcut/ premier soon
  • I currently use 2x 27" 1440p monitors, but may switch to a super wide soon
  • would mostly use it docked while at home, but would also use it in the other room to change the scenery /coffee shops/ when I travel
  • I play wow regularly and games like Hogwarts legacy/ Skyrim/ fallout sometimes (sadly they don't work on mac, only wow does)

Questions:

  1. Will 16gb or 18gb (new m3) be enough? I don't want to have to buy a new machine each year
  2. Swapping to 32gb would almost be as expensive as buying a new high-to-mid desktop for games and home + a MacBook air for travel - what do you guys think?
  3. Am I able to get 144hz frames on 2 monitors or am I locked to 120hz on only 1 monitor?
  4. 14" or 16" ? is 16" really that heavy? is 14" small and bad for eyes?
  5. If I'm using it docked, will it hurt the laptop/battery (overheating etc)?

Thanks!
